The visit to The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA香港機場管理局)and HAECO (香港飛機工程有限公司) was jointly organized by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, St Jame’s Settlement, HAECO and The Airport Authority Hong Kong. Led by a staff member of St Jame’s Settlement called Ms Chan, thirty-fourS.4 & S.5 students, together with Ms Chan, Mr Mak and Mr Tang, took a coach to the airport. Afterwards, all students gathered at the Press conference Room and watched two videos showing the differences in work between The Airport Authority Hong Kong and Civil Aviation Department 民航處. The former is responsible for the operation and development of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) whereas the latter is accountable for providing air traffic control services to all aircraft operating within the Hong Kong Flight Information Region. The docent of AA also introduced the project of the third runway and their Green commitments to students. Over the years, the AA has developed numerous environmental programmes and initiatives covering a wide range of areas including air quality, carbon reduction, energy, kitchen waste and recycling as well as water management. After that, students and teachers entered the restricted area and went to Integrated Airport Centre via a tunnel by coach. The centre is the nerve centre for real-time monitoring of all airport operation and contingency management. Finally, students visited HAECO. A docent of HAECO explained the work of the company and the way of becoming a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer. After the briefing, students were divided into the groups. Each group was led by a docent to visit the hangar where the airplanes were being repaired. Before they left, each visitor was given a laser pen as the gift.
